As part of the İŞKUR (Turkish Employment Agency) Youth Program, aimed at helping university students adapt to the labor market and enhance their employability, a lottery draw was held at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) to determine which students would participate in the program.
The draw took place at OMU Atatürk Congress and Culture Center (AKM) Blue Hall in the presence of Samsun’s 5th Notary and İŞKUR officials. The event was broadcast live on social media, attracting thousands of viewers.
Out of 7,901 student applications, 1,613 students were randomly selected for the program and will be assigned various roles within OMU campuses.
Vice-Rector Kesten: "Our Students Truly Needed This Support"
Providing details about the program, OMU Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Alper Kesten stated:
"Following the announcement by our President, we are conducting this lottery within the scope of İŞKUR’s part-time work program for students. We specifically ensured that the draw was transparent and open to everyone, carried out in the presence of a notary.
OMU has been allocated 1,613 positions across the main and satellite campuses. After the selection process, we will handle the necessary documentation and onboarding procedures for the students. This is a fantastic program, and our students truly needed this opportunity.”
“1,083 TL Per Day for 7.5 Hours of Work”
Prof. Dr. Kesten emphasized that the program is expected to continue in future terms and will provide significant financial support to students:
"We received nearly 8,000 applications from students across all OMU campuses. From this pool, 1,613 students were selected to work.
* The employment period will be from March 3 to June 30, 2025.
* If the program continues, it will follow the same lottery selection process.
* Students will work for 16 weeks.
* A student working one full day (7.5 hours) will earn 1,083 TL.
* Their total earnings will vary based on their work schedule.
Additionally, we will make sure to assign students to roles that match their skills and capabilities."
This initiative supports students financially while also providing valuable work experience within their university environment.
