Traditional Songs from Across Türkiye Resonate at OMU’s Anniversary Event

As part of Ondokuz Mayıs University's (OMU) 50th-anniversary celebrations, a Turkish Folk Music Concert featuring songs from various regions was held by the OMU Continuing Education Center (OMÜSEM) Choir and the Directorate of Health, Culture, and Sports Folk Music Ensemble.

The concert, held at OMU Atatürk Cultural Center, featured a choir composed of the university’s academic and administrative staff as well as students.

The choir was accompanied by Prof. Dr. Can Karahan, Prof. Dr. Eyüp Selim Köksal, and Research Assistant Tolgahan Tiktaş on bağlama; Prof. Dr. Deniz Ekinci on accordion; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aytunç Aydın on kaval; Dr. Onurcan Kaya, Lecturer Cem Karataş, and Alper Serhat Bal on percussion instruments; Lecturer Savaş Öztürk on ney; Serhat Çelikel on clarinet; İsmail Yeşilyurt on kabak kemane; and Çetin Buğrahan on guitar.

Conducted by Lecturer Dr. Oğuz Yılmaz, the choir performed folk songs representing Erzurum, Elazığ, Bartın, İzmir, Kırşehir, Kırklareli, Şanlıurfa, Samsun-Çarşamba, Bergama, Manisa, Rize, and Artvin, captivating the audience with a rich repertoire.

Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Alper Kesten and General Secretary Prof. Dr. Erhan Burak Pancar attended the event alongside academics and students.

The program concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation and a commemorative group photo.
