At TEKNOFEST (Aviation, Space, and Technology Festival) held in Adana this year, Ondokuz Mayıs University’s (OMU) Bafra 4.0 Team took first place in Türkiye, OMU-TAR Team secured second place, and the OMU-KAR Team achieved third place.
TEKNOFEST, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Technology and the Turkish Technology Team Foundation (T3), saw over 1.65 million contestants from 790 thousand teams competing in 50 different competitions held from October 2-6, 2024, at Adana Şakirpaşa Airport.
At TEKNOFEST, where OMU participated with 13 finalist teams, the Bafra 4.0 Team, under the mentorship of Instructor Mustafa Kaya from the Computer Technologies Department at Bafra Vocational School (VS), claimed the first prize in the "Turkish Natural Language Processing Competition – Natural Language Processing Scenario" category, becoming a source of pride.
Instructor Mustafa Kaya provided insights on the project that led the Bafra 4.0 Team to victory with their “Entity-Based Sentiment Analysis Competition” in the “Turkish Natural Language Processing – Natural Language Processing Scenario” category. He explained: “In the scenario category, participants were tasked with providing solutions to a given challenge. This year’s competition involved analyzing customer feedback from various companies or institutions and classifying the sentiments expressed. Our AI model successfully completed the task, rising to first place out of 86 teams.”

The OMU-TAR Team, established under the guidance of Associate Professor Cengiz Tepe from the Electrical-Electronics Engineering Department, secured second place in the "Agricultural Unmanned Ground Vehicle Competition" with their "Agricultural Unmanned Ground Vehicle Project."
After securing second place in 2022 and 2023, the OMU-TAR Team maintained their consistent performance by achieving second place in TEKNOFEST Adana, marking their third consecutive runner-up finish.
Established in 2024, the OMU-KAR Team made an impressive debut at TEKNOFEST by securing third place in Türkiye. The unmanned ground vehicle developed by OMU-KAR in the “Agricultural Unmanned Ground Vehicle Competition” boasts the following features:
• Capable of autonomously navigating agricultural fields without damaging plants and performing hoeing operations.
• Equipped with an ‘AI computer’ to distinguish between wild and cultivated plants.
• Can transmit the locations of identified plants to a ground station with centimeter-level precision using RTK GPS.
• The location data and camera feed can be monitored through a custom user interface at the ground station, and the vehicle can be manually controlled.
