Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) and the Amasya Merzifon 5th Jet Base Command conducted a joint drill to simulate responses to drowning incidents at sea. The OMU Medical Faculty Emergency Department was a critical site for this exercise.
Under the protocol signed between OMU and the Amasya Merzifon 5th Main Jet Base Command, which includes multiple annual drills, the exercise saw a military helicopter take off from Merzifon and reach the Kostal region of Samsun. According to the scenario, military personnel at risk of drowning were rescued from the site and transported to the helipad across from the OMU Medical Faculty Hospital Emergency Department. The medical team provided immediate care there, and the personnel were discharged after treatment.
The successfully completed drill demonstrated both institutions' intervention capacity and rapid response abilities in the event of any drowning incident at sea.
Earlier, another drill simulating injury cases was also conducted in collaboration and coordination between the two institutions under the binding protocol.
This protocol aims to prevent drowning incidents and potential loss of life through quick and effective intervention.
