World renowned Kyrgyz writer Chyngyz Aitmatov, whom we sadly lost in 2008, is commemorated in a ceremony held at Ondokuz Mayıs University for the 90th birthday of the writer.  Roza Aitmatova, sister of the famous writer, who came to Samsun to participate in this ceremony paid a courtesy visit to Rector Prof. Dr. Sait Bilgiç.

Dean of Kyrgyz Turkish Manas University Faculty of Letters Layli Ükübaeva, Bekbolat Aydaraliyev, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Aydın, Assoc. Prof. Yusuf Yurdagül, and Assoc. Prof. Şeyma Kuran have also participated in the visit held at the Rector’s office.

“It gives us great honor to celebrate the 90th birthday of Chyngyz Aitmatov at our university. It gives us great joy to see you in here.” said Rector Bilgiç while expressing his appreciation of the visit.

Dean of Kyrgyz Turkish Manas University Faculty of Letters Layli Ükübaeva expressed her gratitude towards OMU and the people of Samsun in the presence of Rector Bilgiç and expressed her feelings; “We are very happy to be a part of a programme such as this. This is a very important day for us.”

During the visit, Roza Aitmatova gifted a book written by the nephew of Chyngyz Aitmatov to Rector Bilgiç. Rector Bilgiç thanked the guests and gifted Roza Aitmatova a statute of Atatürk, which is the symbol of Samsun, and a coffee cup.
