Successful Completion of Course Material Design Training for Hearing-Impaired at OMU

Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Faculty of Education, under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ergun, has successfully completed the 'Science Teacher Training for Designing Course Materials for the Hearing-Impaired.' The training, held from January 23 to 27, 2023, featured project experts Prof. Dr. Zerrin Turan from Anadolu University and Dr. Hakan Metin from OMU.

Guidebook Developed for Teachers

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ergun, discussing the TÜBİTAK-supported project initiated for the first time under Inclusive Society Applications for Individuals with Special Needs, stated, “The project aimed to impart practical knowledge, skills, and experience to science teachers for designing course materials for hearing-impaired students. Throughout the five days, 13 trainers shared essential information for preparing individualized education plans. On the final day, a guidebook was prepared for science teachers, aiming to increase the widespread impact of the project.”

24 Science Teachers Received Training

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ergun added, “24 science teachers from various regions of our country participated in the project. The training encompassed a range of topics, including types of hearing loss, assistive hearing technologies, education for hearing-impaired students, creation of individualized teaching programs, application of technology-supported digital course materials, teaching methods for science education to hearing-impaired students, and skills in Turkish sign language.”

At the conclusion of the training, Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Başoğlu presented the trainers and participating teachers with certificates of appreciation and participation.
