A ceremony was held at the Atatürk Monument in Samsun to commemorate the “November 10th Atatürk Memorial Day,” honoring the Great Leader and Founder of the Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who disembarked in Samsun on May 19, 1919, to initiate the National Struggle.
Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın represented Ondokuz Mayıs University during the memorial program. The tribute began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument of Honor. The Samsun Governorship, Samsun Garrison Command, and Samsun Metropolitan Municipality placed wreaths at the monument. At 09:05 a.m., a two-minute moment of silence was observed, followed by the singing of the Turkish National Anthem. Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı then signed the monument's book of honor.
Also attending the ceremony were Samsun Garrison Commander Retired Major General Davut Ala, Samsun Metropolitan Mayor Halit Doğan, Samsun Chief Public Prosecutor Mehmet Sabri Kılıç, district mayors, protocol members, and residents.
After the ceremony, Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın joined protocol members in visiting the Atatürk Photo Exhibition and Gazi Museum, where she placed carnations in Atatürk’s memory.
