OMU Conference Explores the Roots of Western Civilization Through Anatolian History

Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) organized a conference titled "The Root of Western Civilization Extending from Anatolia."

The event, hosted at the Atatürk Cultural Center by OMU’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Archaeology, focused on Anatolia's historical and cultural contributions to Western civilization.

Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Vedat Keleş, emphasized that the issues discussed are not only relevant today but are also topics that future generations should pay significant attention to.

The conference continued with a presentation by Prof. Dr. Fahri Işık, highlighting the influence of Anatolian civilizations, such as the Hittites, Lydians, and Phrygians, on the Western world.

Additionally, the role of Anatolia as a cultural bridge between Greek and Roman civilizations was discussed. The conference underscored Anatolia's significant contributions to the development of Western philosophy, art, and science, revealing that the roots of Western values bear traces of Anatolian influence.

The conference was attended by Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı, Deputy Mayor of Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Nihat Soğuk, OMU Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Çetin Kurnaz, Vezirköprü District Governor Özgür Kaya, academics, and students.
