Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) and TELEMAR Defense have signed a collaboration protocol within the scope of Research and Development (R&D) studies.
The agreement aims to nationalize the heat-shrink tubing (heat-shrink tubing: a unique insulation sleeve that shrinks when exposed to heat, securing, covering, and sealing the area of application) used in the defense industry and compliant with military standards.
The signing ceremony took place in the Rectorate Meeting Room, with the protocol signed by Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal and TELEMAR Defense General Manager Gökhan Kocabaş. MİLKAB (National Cable) General Manager Yavuz Ekinci and OMU Technology Transfer Office (TTO) officials were also present at the ceremony.
Under the signed protocol, OMU academicians and the MİLKAB R&D team will start working to produce a prototype with an innovative approach to create a domestic and national product.
The nationalization project, followed by the Presidency of Defense Industries Industrialization Department, aims to significantly contribute to our country's strategic goals and national technology initiative within the framework of university-industry cooperation.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal said, "I hope the product will be successful. Firstly, it is precious that this is a strategic, military, and national product. Additionally, a tangible and product-oriented project within the context of university-industry cooperation is genuinely valuable for our university and region. I thank all my colleagues who have contributed to creating, developing, and then projecting this idea into production, opening the way for R&D."
TELEMAR Defense General Manager Gökhan Kocabaş emphasized the importance of the protocol, stating, "We thank the professors who have worked and will work on this project because we are doing a precious job together. We will support and produce the products that the sector expects and that are currently procured from abroad domestically. This move will create new employment opportunities and contribute to the birth of new collaborations by stimulating the sector. The encouragement of collaborations with universities in all defense-related works will increase. We also see this as a great opportunity for ourselves and have started an excellent project with the right team."
MİLKAB General Manager Yavuz Ekinci stated, "First of all, thank you for providing us with these opportunities, especially to you and the OMU-TTO team working with you. Thanks to their initial cooperation opportunities and sincere approaches and, of course, with your approval, we are here today. With this signing process, we will greatly contribute to our country, sector, and defense industry. We are also proud and happy to do this with you as OMU."
The signing ceremony ended with the presentation of gifts and a commemorative photo session.
