Kardelen Demir Targets World Taekwondo Championship After Winning 10 Medals

Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Yaşar Doğu Faculty of Sports Sciences, 3rd-year Coaching Education student and national taekwondo athlete Kardelen Demir, who has won 10 medals in national and international tournaments to date, continues her training to add more achievements to her career.

Kardelen Demir, 20, began taekwondo at the age of 9 under the guidance of her older brother. Throughout her career in Türkiye, she has earned two gold, one silver, and three bronze medals in various tournaments.

She won gold at the Multi European Taekwondo Championships, silver at the European Universities Games, and bronze at the Montenegro and Macedonia Open taekwondo tournaments. Kardelen is currently preparing for the Turkish Championships and the World Taekwondo Championships in October, aiming to secure new victories.

Kardelen trains at the İlkadım Mete Adanır Sports Hall under the supervision of her brother and coach, Doğan Demir.

"I Have Been Practicing Taekwondo for 11 Years"

Expressing how she was introduced to taekwondo by her brother and has been involved in the sport for 11 years, Kardelen Demir shared:

“My brother used to come home with medals all the time when I was little. He was a very disciplined person, and I looked up to him. One day, he took me to the training hall, and I haven’t stopped practicing taekwondo since. Now, he is both my brother and my coach. We train together and spend more than 30 hours a week in training. We work hard to achieve our goals.”

“I Have Won 10 Medals in National and International Tournaments”

Highlighting her achievements, Kardelen said:

“I have about 30 medals from provincial and regional championships. I am a European champion and a silver medalist at the European Universities Games. In addition, I have received awards in international open tournaments. For the 2025 season, I will first compete in the Turkish Championships and aim for the World Championships in October.”

"Our Biggest Goal is the Olympics"

Kardelen’s brother and coach, Doğan Demir, expressed his pride in his sister’s dedication and success:

“We are experiencing a successful period together. Our biggest goal is the Olympics. This year, Kardelen became the Turkish champion, European champion, and runner-up at the European Universities Games. She also won the 73 kg category at the Clubs Turkish Championship held in Ankara. We have big ambitions and are working hard to represent Samsun in the best way possible.”
